The most searched for celebrity death according to Google was Ryan Dunn. For anyone still scratching their head at that name, you can see a nice little write up on the man below, but as for the list itself, it's an incredibly mixed bag that points to the more surprising interests of those using Google for the latest in big name death.

Below I've provided a slightly revised top 10 death list. Morbid as that may sound, it shoudl at least provide a look back on some people we were sad to lose, and others we should have lost sooner.

Ryan Dunn – The most searched celebrity death in 2011 according to Google. Dunn was famous being a jackass, literally, and his usual day of work involved high speed projectiles flying towards his crotch. The internet's fascination with a man whose contributions include movies featuring the misadventures of his crotch and the occasionally acting in a movie or TV show. He died in a car crash.

Amy Winehouse – Perhaps a death that many would call too soon, but not entirely unexpected. The British singer was massively popular for her soul/R&B/jazz fused music. She had a long history of substance abuse and was found dead of alcohol poisoning.

Betty Ford – Former first lady and wife of Gerald Ford. Unlike most first ladies which were seen more than heard, Betty Ford embraced more controversial positions and readily shared her opinions with anyone interested. After struggling with her own challenges with alcohol and opioid, Ford founded the Betty Ford Centre to help others struggling with substance abuse. She died of natural causes on July 8th.

Elizabeth Taylor – The actress and big screen icon, her career may only be only be overshadowed by her turbulent personal life. She won two academy awards (one for BUtterfield 8 and Who's Afriad of Virginia Woolfe?), lived through eight marriages, and fought tirelessly against AIDS by helping to establish the American Foundation for AIDS Research. She died of congestive heart failure.

Christopher Hitchens – One of the few public intellectuals left, Hitchens led his life on the merit of principals rather than the static positions of unchanging ideology. He wrote and spoke in a way that made other practitioners of the English language seem inadequate. He gained most of his notoriety later in his life as a prominent anti-theist. He passed away after a long battle with esophageal cancer.

Steve Jobs – Incredibly beloved co-founder of Apple revitalized the ailing company in the mid-90's and eventually led them to being on of the biggest tech giants on the planet today. He emphasized products that were not just technologically advanced, but also aesthetically appealing. Jobs' time at the company helped create a subculture of Apple fans that will outlive him for some time. He died of respiratory arrest caused by metastatic pancreas neuroendocrine tumor.

Vaclav Havel – The former and final president of Czechoslovakia and the first president of the Czech Republic. Havel first became known worldwide in 1977 as the leader of the opposition in Czechoslovakia putting him directly against the ruling communist party. He staunchly fought for human rights against a ruling party that routinely ignored them. He led Czechoslovakia, and then the Czech Republic, to a multiparty democracy. He passed away on December 18th.

Muammar Gaddafi – The former leader of Libya seized control of the country in 1969 in a bloodless coup. He routinely arrested and detained many of his own citizens and built palaces for himself while his people starved. He funded and supported terrorist attacks around the world including the New People's Army in the Philippines and the IRA in Ireland. After massive demonstrations and a civil war, Gaddafi was killed by a gun shot in the midst of an angry mob.

Kim Jong-il – The 'dear leader' as he was most commonly known in North Korea was the son of Kim Il-sung. Although only head of his political party, Kim Jong-il was still undoubtedly the leader North Korea. He maintained that the president was his father, in spite of him having died in 1994. Although that might be be the best example of the dear leader's mental state, it should also be said that his brutal leadership has been a plague upon his people and a destabilizing force that threatens nuclear war with South Korea and Japan. He died of a heart attack.

Osama Bin Laden – The leader of Al Queda, perhaps the most infamous terrorist group of the 21st century, which has launched attacks on nearly every continent for an aggressively militant form of Islam. Charged with funding the September 11th attacks, Bin Laden has since become the ultimate icon for terrorism and the most wanted man in the world. He was killed by a U.S. raid on the compound he had been living in within Pakistan.
